I was surprised and saddened by Alices sudden passing. Then I started thinking back-way back. When I was in 7th grade one of my best friends was Antonette(Peep)Scalzo.I used to go up to the farm some weekends. We had a ball playing I remember thinking that her big brother John was real cute. All through high school we played sports together and stayed good friends.
SKIP 40 YEARS!!
In 1990 my husband's mom was in the old Memorial Nursing home where Alice was working. Every time we visited Bob's mom we would catch up on family history talking to Alice. We mentioned that we were going to be looking for a place to winter in Florida. She told us she had just bought a place there so why didn't we stay with her while we looked. We ended up buying a mess of a place right across the road from Alice. We slept in her spare room until another of her friends, Margaret Davis came down so we just moved out to the back porch for awhile tillwe got out place livable. The next 14-15 years we spent half the year in the GREAT company of Alice, Terry, David and the kids (as they came along) Holiday meals at Alices, daily walks, just sitting talking, usually about our families made us love her and her family.
On March 1 1995 we got a call thar our 44 year old son had died from a heart attack. My first call was to Alice. As she was driving us to the airport that morning I was brooding about him being gone at such a young age saying all he had ever done was work. Alice, in her usual matter of fact way,ask me if I had ever heard him complain. When I said she told me to stop worrying about and be happy he had a good life. She really helped Bob and me through those awful hours before we got back to NYS.
I guess I just want tell you all that your mom was an exceptional lady and she was SO proud of you all
Love, Peg

Alice was a wonderful mentor to me. She submitted my name for a nursing scholarship. (which I won) She also became my friend and a great bowling buddy!! Lots of fun tournaments we participated in. Will never forget her scrawling her note to us in lipstick on the motel mirror as we were sleeping in and she was an early riser. Very glad I got to see her in May and will always remember her with a smile on my face. So sorry for your family's loss. My husband Geoff also remembers her fondly. worked with her for many years at Utica Psych. A special person!!

Her sense of humor and the good articles she would share with all her fellow TOPS members. We will miss her as she spent her summers with us. I truly enjoyed knowing her and was so surprised to hear of her passing. God's blessings to her family as they grieve her loss.
