1933 – 2024
Howard C. Ahders, 91, of New Hartford, NY, and formerly of Deansboro and East Islip, NY, passed away peacefully at the Wynn Hosital on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Howard was born on March 19, 1933, in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Henry C. and Anna M. Ahders (Becker). He was united in marriage at St. Mark’s Church in Islip, Long Island, NY in 1955, a blessed union of over 68 years. Howard graduated from SUNY Albany with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. He entered the Army and taught at the Ordinance School at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Subsequently he went to work for Grumman Aerospace on Long Island where they lived for 30 years before retiring and moving to Deansboro in 1992. Howard loved woodworking, producing toys and beautiful furniture for the family. He later focused all his attention on wood-turning, creating hundreds of bowls, goblets, ornaments and other unique pieces. He also continued working with computers, as well as spending time at the family summer cottage in Walton. He also had a passion for the family ancestry and spent many hours researching the branches of the family tree, either from home or on their trips to Europe.
Howard was pre-deceased by his wife Joan last November, his sister and brother, and is survived by their son, Howard “Ward” Ahders Jr. and daughter-in-law Robyn Ahders, of Melbourne, FL, their daughter, Kim Goodson and partner Robert Pentasuglia of Marcy, former son-in-law, Mark Goodson, of Deansboro, grandchildren, Jason Ahders, Alexandra Ahders, Brienne Goodson-Beck and husband Charles, Paige Goodson, a great-granddaughter, Lila Joan, a sister, Adrienne Leibundgut, of Norwich, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends thanks and gratitude to caregivers Debbie White, Pamela Fleming, Micheala Phillips, Nikita Brigham and Michelle Thurston for all their care and support.
