Obituary of Margaret M. Dowling
Margaret Long Dowling August 30, 1950 - June 9, 2024
Margaret Dowling passed away June 9, 2024. Margaret Mary Long was born on August 30, 1950 to Maureen and William Long in Queens, N.Y. The family moved to Huntington Station, N.Y. where the kids attended school and were surrounded by a loving and involved extended family. Sunday dinners and big family events were the norm at the Long home and a tradition still carried on today.
Margaret graduated from Alfred University where she met her husband, James Dowling. Jim and Peg, as they were known to their friends and family, eventually settled in Clinton where they raised their four children. Margaret received her master’s degree in literacy and worked for the Utica City Schools for 37 years as a teacher and literacy specialist. After retiring, Margaret served on the Clinton Central School District Foundation. She was an avid supporter of high-quality education for all children.
Margaret enjoyed summers at her camp in Sylvan Beach, traveling to visit family, gardening, and crafting. After sewing countless Halloween costumes and figure skating outfits, she recently focused on quilting and loved taking classes at her favorite quilt shop.
