Obituary of Rodman A. Mogle
Rod Mogle went home to be with the Lord on Thursday morning.
Rod was born to Guy and Ann Mogle in Sharon, Pennsylvania. The family moved to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to help run the family’s grocery store. In the 1940’s, the Mogle family relocated to Buffalo, NY.
After graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree from University of Buffalo, he worked for Bell Aircraft in Buffalo. Rod married Ruth A. Ball on September 17, 1955 at Delevan Baptist Church. The newlyweds moved to Newport, Rhode Island, where Rod attended Naval Officer Candidate School. His first posting was at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Honolulu, Hawaii where he served as a Ship Superintendent. The young couple enjoyed many adventures in Hawaii, touring in his favorite vehicle, a 1952 MG TD.
Rod and family moved to the Washington, DC metro area where he worked as an engineer for the Polaris Missile Program. After release from active duty in 1960, he started his career with General Electric, Light Military Electronics Department. Rod became a valuable and respected employee, retiring as a senior engineer in 1991. He was awarded several patents for his inventions in electronics packaging.
During retirement, there were more opportunities for travel, and time to devote to his hobby, building and flying free flight model airplanes. He was an active member of the Western New York Free Flight Society, and traveled throughout the US, and England competing in model airplane contests. He invented an electronic timer for the model engines and launched a one-man business: Mogle Model Products.
