Obituary of Lucas Benjamin Fesko
Please share a memory of Lucas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lucas B. Fesko, 40, beloved partner of and kindred spirit to Pamela Gerson, of Kingston, NY; cherished son of James and Andrée (née, Marmet) Fesko, of Clinton, NY; younger brother of Geoff Fesko, with his wife, Danielle, and their children Aiden & Nora, of Webster, NY; and big, loving brother of Julia Fesko, of Clinton, NY, succumbed to his long-term battle with depression on June 6, 2022. Born on November 15, 1981 in Cleveland, OH, he moved to Clinton in 1984, where he lived until graduating from high school. Quick witted, intelligent, friendly, even silly, yet very caring and concerned for others, he truly lived up to the meaning of his name, “bringer of light.”
As a child he often visited relatives in France. After high school, he was a Rotary exchange student in Costa Rica, where he learned one of his greatest joys, surfing. He then attended SUNY New Paltz, graduating with honors in both Spanish and French. After college, he taught English in France for seven years. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Mercy College, after which he began teaching English as a second language (ESL) in the Hudson Valley, most recently in the Hyde Park School District.
Lucas loved teaching and, with his fluency in Spanish, he was able to help his students and their parents learn how to use their computers for the virtual learning, which was required during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
He loved music, especially the Grateful Dead. He played piano and recently learned to play the ukulele. He was a talented Salsa dancer and had performed occasionally with a local dance troupe. He also enjoyed good food, especially ethnic cuisines, with friends and family.
Lucas leaves behind, besides the people already mentioned, numerous members of his extended families in the US and in France, as well as many friends in many parts of the world.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. However, donations may be made in his memory to a suicide prevention organization of your choice.
