When we lose someone close, you look back at your own life and you reflect on what person or persons have had an influence on it. Jamie was one of those people for me.
Jamie and I met at age 15 when the Waterville kids met the Clinton kids. Both quickly realized that there was fun to be had on the other side. And boy, did we have fun! It was education at its best!
It didn't take long for Jamie to find the girl of his dreams, my sister, Nancy. And soon after, Jamie introduced me to my future wife. We all became very close, sharing family and friends. The four of us went to our high school prom together. Jamie was in our wedding, and when I bought our first house at the age of 21, Jamie and his brother, Jeff, helped me rebuild that house.
Not just one weekend or a couple of afternoons. No, it was countless hours, weekend after weekend, until it was a house again. Even at that early age, Jamie was teaching me the 'can do' attitude.
After we were able to move in our house, we had our first, a son, Joshua James. Bonnie and I both picked Jamie as Josh's Godfather. You see, if it wasn't for Jamie, there wouldn't have been a Bonnie in my life, there wouldn't have been a house built with love and friendship, and there wouldn't have been a Josh or Jessie. All of my treasures that I cherish the most, somehow or someway, Jamie had a part of.
I've always defined a true friend as someone you truly connect with, and if you don't see each other for a while, and then run into each other again, you reconnect right where you left off. Jamie was a true friend, and a brother.
Here's to you, brother, until we meet up again.

I will always remember a quiet, rainy afternoon in the spring of 1987, telling you I just wanted a friend to eat a meal with once in a while and to talk with during the evening. You laughed at me and said, “You don’t want a friend. You want a relationship!” You we’re right! And very soon after, I found that relationship. How very perceptive you were.
I’ll miss you and your smile. Rest easy.
To Nancy, Alex, and Marshall, and the entire Peck family, my deepest sympathy.
