John J. "Jack" Manning Jr, 85, of College Hill Road, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 11, 2010. He was born in Utica on May 18, 1925, the son of John J. and Minnie Tanton Manning Sr. Jack grew up on College Hill and graduated from Clinton Central School. He served his country in the Army during WWII in the 754th Tank Battalion stationed in Korea. On November 23, 1949 he married Della Wells at St. James Episcopal Church in Clinton. Jack worked at Samson College and retired from Griffiss Air Force Base. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, hunting and fishing. For 35 years he stocked pheasants and fish for the Conservation Corps. He was a lifetime member of both the Clinton Fish & Game Club and Burns-Schilling-Young VFW Post 9591 and was inducted into the NYS Outdoorsman Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Della; his granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Jeff Rorick of Deerfield and their children, Cody, Carter and Cameron; his grandson Christopher Eberley of Whitesboro; and two lifelong friends, Jack Huhn and Webb Rankin. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy. Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, September 17, 2010 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St, Clinton. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to a charity of your choice.
