James P. McMyler, age 94, a resident of the Presbyterian Nursing Home in New Hartford, died Sunday, August 29, 2010.
James was born February 8, 1916 to Patrick and Anna Jennings McMyler in Utica. His parents emigrated from Ireland and settled in the Corn Hill area of Utica with many of their fellow countrymen. James served his country during World War II as a cannoneer under General Patton in Europe. Before and after the war, he worked at one of the local knitting mills until he started working at Griffiss Air Base where he worked until retirement.
On August 21, 1948, James married Jane Kelly at St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica and lived with her on Eagle Street until 1992 when they moved to Clinton. They enjoyed 50 years together before she passed away in 1999. They had one daughter, Patricia. James was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton and a former member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica and its Holy Names Society.
Jimmy was an avid down-hill skier and even had season's passes to area ski slopes until he was 72. He often told his daughter he might take up cross-country skiing with her and John when he got "older".
James is survived by his daughter Patricia and her husband John Ellsworth; his niece Mary Alder and several great nieces and nephews and their families He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Jane, a brother John, a sister Anna Mae Cahill and a nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at St. Mary's Church, Marvin St, Clinton. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Friends and relatives are invited to call 5-7pm Tuesday, at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St, Clinton.
