Donald F. Dixon, 82, of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, August 10, 2010.
He was born on July 13, 1928, a son of the late Clarence and Grace Farrow Dixon. He grew up in Westmoreland and graduated with Westmoreland Central School Class of 1945. On December 20, 1949, he was married to H. Lorraine Hawkins. She died on October 22, 2001. Don was a farmer from childhood until the early 70's. He then became a real estate broker and currently still held his license. Don also worked various courier jobs over the years. He was a work camper in Florida and enjoyed his time there. Don especially enjoyed spending his time outdoors, camping, gardening and at family events. He was a Mason for 29 years with Sconondoa-Sherrill Lodge #814.
He is survived by his son, two daughters and their spouses, Roger and Ann Dixon of Vernon, Julie and Russell Young of Westmoreland and Rita and David Hummel of Remsen; five grandchildren, Barbara Clanton, Lynn Dykstra, Preston Young, Travis Wickham and Tayah Hummel; four great-grandchildren Andrew, Collin and Ashlynn Clanton and Mack Dykstra; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Richard Williamson of Vernon Center; brother, George Dixon of Westmoreland; several nieces and nephews; his special friend and companion, Jean Bosschaart; his dog Casey; and his dear friends, Chuck and Joyce. He was predeceased by his wife, his parents and his stepmother, Josephine Dixon.
Funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St, Clinton. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Friday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Sconondoa-Sherrill Lodge #814 F.A.M. will conduct Masonic funeral rituals Friday at 7pm.
