Obituary of David Ronald Bornick
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a lengthy struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, David Ronald Bornick died at his home, 3298 Craig Road, Clinton, NY, 13323, on Saturday, August 7, 2010. David and his family were disappointed in their hope for a lung transplant, the only cure for this disease caused by chemotherapy treatment for childhood cancer.
David was born in New Hartford, NY, on March 27, 1966, to Ronald and Margaret (Morrison) Bornick. He struggled with ill health in early life, surviving two malignant brain tumors. Since his cancer treatment in 1974, David lived an active life, graduating from Clinton Central High School in 1984. He began working as a food service aide at the Martin Luther Home in Clinton the same year and was recently awarded his 25-Year Certificate from Lutheran Care Ministries. In July of this year David's health forced him to take a medical leave of absence.
David was an enthusiastic railway fan and, for years, volunteered on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad as a Car Attendant and as Conductor. He also enjoyed working on his model railway with his father. He occasionally humored his mother by riding horseback with her on their farm. He had earned his ham radio license in 2000, with call letters KC2HBO, and often broadcast in the evening. David had high hopes of acquiring and restoring an antique farm tractor, but his health made that impossible.
David is survived by his parents, with whom he lived, a sister, Elizabeth, his maternal uncle, William (Jane) Morrison and cousins, Christopher Morrison and Margaret Morrison and her fiancé, Hugo Isensee. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, G. Gilbert and Gertrude Morrison and paternal grandparents, Herbert and Martha Bornick. He is also survived by many second cousins.
There will be no calling hours. David's family invites you to join them in a celebration of his life on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Lutheran Care Chapel, 108 Utica Road, Clinton, NY and, following the service, for refreshments in the Community Room.
The Bornick family asks you, to honor David's memory by becoming an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, we request a memorial donation in his name, to one of these charities:
Trustees of Columbia University, c/o Columbia University Medical Center, 100 Haven Ave., Ste 29D, New York, NY 10032.
