Obituary of Victor G. Congden
Please share a memory of Victor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Victor G. Congden, 85, formerly of Clinton, passed away November 20, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in W. Amboy on November 1, 1932, a son of the late Guy and Pearl (McGee) Congden. Victor worked at Griffiss Air Force Base after high school and then worked as a mechanic for Utica Rome Bus Co. and Utica Mack. After that he pursued his dream of being an independent trucker and owned his own rigs for many years until his retirement. Victor was united in marriage to Sherry James on April 28, 1956. The couple lived in Clinton for 39 years and were members of Clinton United Methodist Church. They moved to West Edmeston and joined the Edmeston United Methodist Church. Victor enjoyed being outdoors and tinkering in his garage. He could fix just about anything and keep it running long after most would get rid of it. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, truck and car shows, but loved spending time with his family most of all. Victor was a kind and gentle soul who was always thankful.
He is survived by his wife Sherry; three sons and a daughter, James and Ann Congden of Waterville, Bonnie Evans of Whitesboro, Jeffrey Congden and Johene Dwyer of Camden and Steven and Paulette Congden of W. Edmeston; five beloved grandchildren, Katrina and Anthony Carro of Chadwicks, Kaleigh Evans and fiancé Jason Semeraro of Chadwicks, Kameron Evans of Whitesboro, Alexandria Congden and Zachary Congden both of W. Edmeston; several great-grandchildren; a brother Donald Congden of Camden and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, a sister and a son-in-law, John Evans.
