Joseph J. Giacona Sr, 66, of Creaser Road, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. He was born April 4, 1944 in Utica, to John and Laura Borgia Giacona. He grew up in North Utica and graduated from Proctor High School. On October 21, 1964, Joe was united in marriage to Melody Zurek at St. Peter's Church. They shared 48 years together. He retired after 35 years as a truck driver. Joe loved four-wheeling, snowmobiling and grass dragging. He enjoyed watching UFC and would jokingly tell his daughter he "wanted to meet her in the Octagon". He is survived by his wife, Melody; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Michael Quinn Sr. of Rome; five grandchildren, Michael Jr. "Bubba", Kimberly "Kim", Naomi "Omi", Joseph III and his brother Jacob; his mother Laura Giacona of Otter Lake and her special friend, Harry Kahler; a brother, David of Oriskany Falls; three sisters, Elaine Joseph of Ohio, Joanne of Utica and Gloria Schremmer; a brother-in-law, Barney and his wife Miss Florence, who affectionately called him "Ice"; his cousin, who was as close as a brother, Tom Borgia and his friend Marie and his special friends, Joe Gorea who was at Joe's side and Michael Boehlert, Tim Boehlert, George Nichols, Willy Pfeiffer, Billy Besig and the many friends and family members who shared special times with us. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph J. Giacona Jr. on January 24, 2008, his brother, John and his father. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, July 2, 2010 at Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills. A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, Clinton.
