Obituary of Dorothy Jane Howlett
Dorothy Jane Howlett, 79, passed away September 11, 2017 at the Presbyterian Home with her family by her side.
She was born May 20, 1938, a daughter of the late George C. and Mildred (Maxiner) Bowen. Dorothy was united in marriage to Wilfred Arthur Howlett on June 16, 1956. The couple shared many years of happiness until Art's passing in 2000. Dorothy retired from Westmoreland Central School after 26 years of service, where she was Past President of the NYSEC Union and worked at the school budget votes. She bowled in coed and women's leagues, was a member of the Westmoreland Pool Committee, the Westlanders and card club, past member of Hecla Union Church and enjoyed making crafts with her friends. Dorothy enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren most of all. While at the Presbyterian Home, Dorothy continued her community service and activities as President of the Resident Council, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed playing bingo. Dorothy was also a wonderful foster mother, giving a home and love to many children over the years.
She is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob and Paula Howlett of Westmoreland, Edward Howlett and his partner Bill Griffith of PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Rocco DiNitto of Marcy; two granddaughters and their husbands, Carrie and Ryan O'Grady and Amy and Brian Everetts, all of Westmoreland; great-grandchildren Scarlett and Teagan O'Grady; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Tony Mariotti of Westmoreland; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Charles Thayler and Thelma Jones; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her sister Joyce Bowen; a brother Donald Ward; and sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Cecil Williamson and Garnet Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 5pm Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. All are invited to call Thursday from 2-5 prior to the service. Graveside burial services will be held at 10am on Friday at Westmoreland Cemetery.
The family thanks the nurses and staff at the Presbyterian Home for the wonderful care given to Dorothy.
