Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eleanor R. (Morrison) Neschleba, age 92, died peacefully on August 2, 2017 at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, NY, where the caring staff provided her much comfort and attention during her final months.
Eleanor was born November 1, 1924 in Binghamton, NY, educated in Binghamton schools, and attended Trinity College in Washington, DC. On January 20, 1945 she became the wartime bride of Lt. Joseph Neschleba at Enid Air Base in Oklahoma. After the War they moved back to Binghamton where she volunteered at Lourdes Hospital, later becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed flower arrangement competitions at area garden clubs, and she served as president of the Binghamton Civic Club. Eleanor and Joe moved to Huntington, NY in 1975 and then to Whitesboro, NY in 1992 to be closer to family. She was a member of the former St. Anne's Parish in Whitesboro and more recently the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. She was a devoted wife who celebrated 68 years of marriage, loved and nurtured her family, and enjoyed visits to her favorite place, Martha's Vineyard.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Carol Goodman and husband Daniel Goodman of New Hartford, NY, her son, Michael Neschleba and wife Patricia Fitzgerald of East Orleans, MA and her daughter, Nancy Smith of Pinehurst, NC.
Eleanor leaves behind eight grandchildren: Patrick Neschleba (Kerri) of Mountain View, CA; Kathleen Harwood (Jon) of Groton, MA; Alan Goodman (Tran Hang) of Pullman, WA; Joanna Goodman of Winter Park, CO; Martha Goodman (Tom Kraus) of Washington, DC; Emily Goodman of Austin, TX; Matthew Goodman of New Hartford, NY; and Nathaniel Smith (Amanda) of Carrboro, NC. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Eric and Brooke Neschleba, Sidney and Riley Olsen and J.T. Harwood, Jacob Goodman, Isaac Kraus, a special cousin, Joanne Easton, and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband who died on August 3, 2013, and by her brother Robert Morrison of Pensacola, FL. Eleanor was the last of the family's Greatest Generation.
The family extends special thanks to her caregivers at Lutheran's Willoway Unit, the staff at Hospice and Palliative Care for all their support, and to Cherie Williams who helped make it possible for Eleanor to remain in the home she loved after her husband's passing.
