Obituary of Muriel C. Sunter
Please share a memory of Muriel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Muriel C. Sunter, 80, died peacefully on the morning of June 9, 2017, at her home of more than 50 years on East Carter Road, Westmoreland, New York, following a brief battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Brechin, Scotland, the daughter of the late Alexander and Isabella (Soutter) Robb. In 1956 she married the love of her life, George B. Sunter in Scotland. George and Muriel immigrated to the United States as newlyweds and together they raised three daughters. Muriel was totally dedicated to her husband, children, and grandchildren in all aspects of their lives. She loved to clean and her home was always enviably well-kept. She will be remembered as a strong, loving, and selfless individual.
Before her retirement, Muriel worked at US Airways in Syracuse. She loved to travel with her husband George and other family members, visiting places such as Alaska, Florida, California, Barbados, and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - a favorite - as well as returning to her first home in Scotland several times. Muriel was a caring woman who touched the lives of all who knew her. She leaves behind many cherished, longtime neighbors and friends including her many co-workers who she enjoyed meeting up with during her retirement. She had a love of old movies and could name the actors and actresses in all of her favorite films. She enjoyed watching PGA golf and even attended a PGA tournament in Florida.
Surviving Muriel is her beloved husband of 61 years, George; devoted daughters Eileen (Gerald) Tudman, Janet (Andrew) Clarey, and Christine (Jon) Link, all of Clinton, NY; sister Kathleen (Robin) Ritchie and brother Michael (Rosie) Robb, both of Brechin, Scotland; grandchildren Stephanie (Greg) Gaudin of Malone, NY, Stacey Tudman and partner Thomas Stann of Laurens, NY, Aaron Holeck of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Gary Holeck and partner Mary Swartwout of New Hartford, NY, Samuel Clarey, Rachel Clarey, and Drew Clarey, all of Clinton; and great-grandchild Bennett Gaudin. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family in the US and Scotland. She was preceded in death by her brothers Sandy Robb, Ian Robb, and James Robb as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Muriel's entire family gives loving thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of Hospice and Palliative Care - especially Lisa, Irene, Georgia, and Ruth - for helping carry out Muriel's wish to remain at home until the end of her life. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413, in Muriel's memory.
Private graveside services will be held at the family's convenience in Evergreen Cemetery, Westmoreland. There are no calling hours
