Obituary of Sally J Humphrey
Sally “Sparkles” Humphrey, 87, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 18,2017, at home surrounded by all her children and grandchildren.
She was born December 21, 1929, in Utica, the daughter of Lloyd and Elizabeth Jones Doyle. Sally graduated from UFA and married her blue-eyed love, William J. Humphrey, Jr., November 15,1947. Their blessed union of love and friendship lasted 64 years, until Bill’s death August 1, 2012.
Sally is survived by their two daughters, Diane Humphrey and Linda Turk, both of New Hartford; son William J. Humphrey III, Sherburne; five grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda Humphrey, William J Humphrey IV, Sara and Newton English, Andrew Turk, Robin Turk and her fiancée, Alex Barnes; three great grandchildren, Dillon English, Bristol Jasiewicz, and Emma English; three sister-in-law’s, Clara Mae and Jack Durant, Geraldine Levy, Ruth Jean and Gene Arcand; several nieces and nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Margery Chaplin, Elizabeth Doyle, and Rosemary Doyle;, two brothers, Richard and Robert Doyle; her son-in-law, Gary Turk, and two nephews, Richard and Steven Metzler.
The family would like to acknowledge Sally’s dearest friends; Barb Pfendler, Betty O’Brien, and Betty Jane Griffin, with whom she enjoyed weekly bridge games, dining out, and many memorable vacations; and Pam Noti, her golfing “daughter” and SCOF buddy, (Southern Comfort Old Fashions).
Sally was an avid reader. She enjoyed her volunteer time and all her friends at the Kirkland Town Library; the Thursday Ladies Night gang, but most of all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all loved their “Mamoo” and her obsession with “sparkles” and Tabu perfume. No one left her house without being “tagged” with her sparkles.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to Kathy Putney, for her kindness and compassion during Sally’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kirkland Town Library.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at a later date.
In Loving Memory
Sally Humphrey
