Obituary of James S. Radlo
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James S. Radlo, 69, of New Hartford, beloved husband and cherished father passed away January 14, 2017 at home surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved, following a courageous battle with cancer.
James was born in Utica, NY, the son of Stanley and Mabel (Farley) Radlo.
Jim attended T.R. Proctor High School. While attending high school he spent countless hours in the gym and at the YMCA perfecting the parallel bars, he became one of Proctor's top gymnasts.
On February 21, 1967, Jim was united in marriage to Linda Kane where they started their journey of life and family together.
Jim was a precision machinist at Munson Machinery Company for 35 years until his retirement in 2013. Jim took great pride in the quality of his work. He also served as Chief Steward for many years at Munson Machinery, Local Lodge 1793 of District 65, The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, where he earned the respect of his co-workers. He was extremely passionate about their rights under a union contract. Jim also enjoyed going to lunch with a longtime co-worker and special friend Roger, AKA "Homeboy".
Softball was a big part of Jim's life in the 80's. He was a pitcher in the Utica MUNY softball league. Go Graziano's!
Jim always enjoyed getting his morning newspaper to do the daily crossword puzzle. As an avid reader, he often went to the local library to seek out a good book. Always concerned about others safety, Jim would make sure that when you left the driveway your car windshield was sparkling clean. Jim also had a love for chocolate.
In his retirement he especially enjoyed spending time with his wife Linda and their cherished granddaughter Nicole "Peanut" Ross. Jim also learned how to play the acoustic guitar. Being self-taught, he became a very good player. He also took up an interest in current events and politics.
Jim was a stand up, honest, kind and compassionate man. A man of integrity.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Linda; two daughters Tracey Ross and Stacey Radlo, who always warmed his heart. Two sons James Radlo Jr. and Jason Radlo; a very special granddaughter Nicole Ross; Two sisters Gayle Kelsey and Carol Radlo; Three brothers Richie Radlo; Albert Radlo; Bruce Radlo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his parents and a brother Joey Radlo.
His kids were his world. Each of his children have special memories of his love and devotion throughout their lives. He will be sadly missed.
A heartfelt and very special thank you goes out to Jeff Ambrose who touched beards with Dad.
Jim's family would like to extend their appreciation to Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassion and care. The family also would like to express a special thank you to Mountainside Medical Equipment, Marcy, NY.
In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no public services. The family will gather privately to honor Jim's life.
