Obituary of Freda H. Owens

"Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies". Freda Helena Ferris Owens, age 94, of Westmoreland, NY graduated to her eternal life November 16, 2016 with her loving family by her side. She was a graduate of St. Francis De Sales School and operated her family grocery store on Dudley Ave, Utica, NY for many years. Freda was born on March 29, 1922 in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Jenny Tady Ferris. On May 29, 1948 she married the love of her life Sidney James Owens of Sauquoit, NY. Her favorite past-time was playing Scrabble with her family and usually triumphing as the winner. She was an active member of the Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills, NY for over 50 years. She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband Sidney; her four children, daughter Gloria (Dan) Buynak of Towanda, PA, her two sons Lawrence (Debbie) Owens of Canastota, NY, Gregory (Vickie) Owens of Superior, Wisconsin, and daughter Jennifer Owens-Harp of Towanda, PA; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Dolores Legare of New Hartford, NY; brothers Charles of New Hartford, NY, Ronald (Cleo) Ferris of Chestertown, MD; sister-in-law Ceil Ferris of Rome, NY; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. A very special thank you to her granddaughter, Theresa Owens for her loving care during her stay at the nursing home. Freda was predeceased by her parents, sisters Anna Ferris, Marylou Abode, brothers Kahlil and Anthony Ferris. Family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon to celebrate her life at 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Seymour's Restaurant, 4836 Route 233, Westmoreland, NY.
