Obituary of Mary L Gurtowski

Mary Bishop Steates Gurtowski, 89, longtime resident of Clinton passed away June 2, 2016 at the Presbyterian Home.
She was born January 22, 1927 in Ilion to Frank and Ina Bishop and graduated from Clinton Central School. Mary was united in marriage to Charles Steates and they raised their family together until his death in 1987. She was married to William Gurtowski of Herkimer in 1991 until his death in 2013. She was proud to be a mother of nine children and to be able to provide a loving home for her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time outside in her gardens.
She is survived by her children, Robert Steates and his companion Jean Pawloski of Rome, Linda Hodinger of Clinton, Judy Johnson of Clinton, John and Kathy Steates of Sauquoit, Charles and Janice Steates of OK, Richard Steates of Clinton and Joseph and Jan Steates of Clinton; her stepchildren, Thomas and Roberta Gurtowski of WA, Richard Gurtowski of VA and Alice Gurtowski of Herkimer; nineteen grandchildren and many beloved great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two husbands Charles Steates and William Gurtowski, her son Edward Joseph Steates, daughter Mary Lou Steates, brothers Frank, Terrance and Edward Bishop, her sister Alma Maddock, and stepson Ronald Gurtowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc.
