Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wilma M. Lawson, age 90, died May 1st, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center after a period of frail health.
She was born in Nashville, TN, on December 28, 1925 and moved to Chattanooga, TN, where she enjoyed her childhood on Lookout Mountain. After graduating from high school she attended the University of Chattanooga and later the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, TN. There she dated and married her husband Eugene. This week would have been their 69th wedding anniversary. They moved to New York in 1949, living in Schenectady and Syracuse before moving to Clinton in 1953 where they lived for 59 years before a final move to Preswick Glen, in New Hartford, in 2012. Wilma was very active in the Stone Presbyterian Church in Clinton and at the Lutheran Home in Clinton, where she served as Volunteer Coordinator for several years. In her younger years, Wilma enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and boating with her family and friends. She also co-founded a women's Bible study and prayer group that she participated in for 50 years.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Eugene Lawson, of New Hartford; a daughter, Christopher R. Gowell, of Eliot, ME; and two sons, David E. Lawson and his wife Lauren, of Seattle, WA, and Kevin E. Lawson and his wife, Patricia, of La Mirada, CA; and her grandchildren, Aaron Gowell, Laura Lawson, Nathan Lawson, Sarah Lawson, Russell Lawson, and Julie Lawson. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, at the Stone Presbyterian Church, 8 S. Park Row, in Clinton. Friends are invited to call at the church from 3:00 p.m. to the time of the service that same day. All are invited to stay following the service for fellowship and refreshments. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Wilma's memory to the Stone Presbyterian Church, PO Box 33, Clinton, NY 13323.
