We knew Elsa and Carl through our friendship with Michele Myrus Brooks who also has a "camp" on Charleston Lake in Canada near Elsa. We visited Michele several times in the summer at the lake and were fortunate to be able to meet and get to know Carl and Elsa. We always enjoyed the "Dairy Bar" after dinner and being career educators ourselves, found many interesting topics to discuss.
One of our favorite memories of Elsa was when we were having morning coffee on Michele's dock and hearing sounds coming from Elsa's cottage area, watched Elsa and Carl canoe out into Charleston Lake in their double canoe. Both of them were in their 90's by then and we were very impressed with their energy and love of being out on the lake. Our memory is of Elsa in the front of the canoe, paddling away and talking a mile a minute to Carl as they glided out on a glassy surface of beautiful blue water in the early morning light. We will treasure this memory and other memories of Elsa forever.
We send our condolences to Elsa's family and are so grateful our lives were touched by a truly amazing and incredible woman.
With our sympathy,
Kevin and Mary Anne Kapp

I got to know Elsa at Charleston Lake. She was a true inspiration and a role model as to how to live your life! Her natural curiosity, sense of adventure and love of the outdoors are three of the many things that I admired about her. She enjoyed my tales of adventure as I enjoyed hers...To quote Elsa at the age of 90, after hearing about my latest world adventures - "aach...to be 10 years younger!"
My condolences to her family and friends - know that her impact has reached far geographically and generationally.

What a privilege for me to meet and get to know Elsa. She was the kind of person who one can immediately connect with, someone who felt familiar in the best way: family.
Elsa had a strong faith, not just in God , but in people. She believed that there is goodness in all people, even those who outwardly might be somewhat hard to take. Instead of criticizing a person she would remark, "Well, we're all different. That's just the way it is. It's not about good or bad - we're just all different." Such a degree of tolerance was a great lesson for me.
Elsa lived in a state of gratitude and grace. She was truly a role model for us all. I loved her and will miss her. I feel honored to have shared in the last part of her long, wonderful life. My heart is with her family and many friends. Nora

When dad married Elsa it was such a joy and feeling of comfort to know that they found each other "again". To know that they each had someone to spend their senior years with, sharing common interests, and learning new ones too.
Elsa stepped into the role of grandmother and great grandmother, embracing our family with her love. We have many wonderful, fun memories that will always be with us. We are grateful for the wonderful years she shared with our dad and we will miss her dearly. I know the four of them are somewhere, probably having wild, fun times together.101!! God bless!
Love from her other family,
The Coulters

Elsa was a wonderful lady, full of life. We, as her neighbours at Charleston Lake, shall miss her dearly. Elsa was a very important part of our life for many years. Always glad to visit for a few hours, talk about her beloved family and just simply appreciate life in general. Both she and Carl were very positive and thankful for all their blessings, including their Canadian friends. She will now be pain free and rest in peace knowing she was loved by everyone she touched. God bless.
