Obituary of Jean Covey Rogers
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean Covey Rogers, 75, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, January 8, 2016.
She was born on December 14, 1940 in Utica, a daughter of Melvin and Katherine (Welch) Covey. On June 13, 1959, she was united in marriage to Lawrence A. Rogers, a blessed union of 54 years until his death on September 25, 2013. The couple lived in Brookfield for a time before moving to Clinton. Jean worked at NY Telephone and retired from H&R Block.
Jean lived a full life enjoying many hobbies and participating in community life. She was an active board member in the early years of our local Hospice and volunteered in several organizations. She enjoyed the creative arts of sewing and quilting and made costumes for the Clinton Figure Skating Club when she was on the board. She was an avid genealogist long before it became popular and loved learning about local history. She watched almost every cooking show on TV, loved traveling, even virtually, and was an avid political show watcher. When possible, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of bird watching and gardening. Most of all, Jean was a devoted wife and mother. She and Larry were partners in everything including their local laundromat business. She was a true hockey, soccer and figure skating mom and supported her children in all their endeavors.
Jean was blessed with a wonderful, caring group of medical professionals, home health aids, family and friends. She knew she was supported and loved.
Jean is survived by her daughter Lisa Rogers and her son Scott Rogers, both of Clinton; her sister Donna Cramer of New Hartford; her brother and sister-in-law, Neal and Antoinette Covey of New Hartford; her sister-in-law Valerie Covey of FL; nieces and nephews, Kari Covey Sutulic, Erin Covey, Reid and Beverly Covey, Shane and Jennifer (Gavin) Covey, and all of their children. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry; her parents; two brothers, James and Dale Covey; her sister-in-law Dawn Rogers and a nephew Eric Covey.
All are invited to call on Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 10-12 pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. A memorial service will be held at Noon following calling hours. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park at a later date.
