Obituary of Philip Lee Gravelding
Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Philip Gravelding, 67, of North Port, FL passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at Upstate University Hospital surrounded by his closest family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Cooperstown, NY on July 22, 1948 to the late Francis and Eleanor Gravelding, he was raised in Richfield Springs, NY where he developed his love for the outdoors. Though much of his career was spent working in the machining industry as a CNC Programmer and Supervisor at Turbo Machined Products in Frankfort, NY and Stork H&E in Owego, NY, he often employed both his skilled craftsmanship and work ethic outside of the workplace and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Throughout the years he completed many landscaping and home repair projects demonstrating both his ability to make a house a true home as well as his dedication as a husband, father, grandfather and true friend.
Phil loved being outdoors; whether it was hunting, fishing, scuba diving or spending his time landscaping and working in the yard. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing and had recently become an avid golfer, enjoying his time on the course and working as a course ranger.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Marylou; daughters, Heather Allen of Clinton, NY, Kari (Dale) Litz of Deerfield, NY; son, Eric (Paula) Gravelding of Ilion, NY; daughters, Kim (Tom) Dybalskiof Venice, FL and Rachel (Carl) Rapplyea of Wyndom, NY; he adored his nine grandchildren, Haley and Eddie Allen, Madelynn (Buggy Boo) Litz, Lauren and Lindsey Gravelding, Brianna Barrett, Kaitlynn and Travis Campbell, and Cassie Rappylea; his sister, Carol Chamberlain of Fort Plain NY; many close family and friends who loved him dearly; and his cherished pet, Molly.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Gravelding of Richfield Springs, NY.
The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to Dr. Wright, Dr. Graziano, their team of wonderful doctors and nurses at Upstate University Hospital on 10E, and his “personal nurse” and daughter Heather for the excellent care he received in his final days.
Per Phil’s wishes, there will be no public services. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date for close friends and family members.
For those who wish, please consider donations in his honor to an organization of your choice.
Rest in Peace Poppy, Grampy, Papa, Dad. We love you, will miss you very much and look forward to seeing you again.
