Allen H. Benedict, 79, of Deansboro, NY passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Siegenthaler Center.
Al was born on the family farm in the town of Butternuts on June 20th 1936, the son of the late Harold and Elouise (Barber) Benedict. On July 25th 1958 he was united in marriage to Joan Barker. Al was the Oneida County Building and Grounds Foreman for many years. Together, with his wife Joan, they ran Ye Olde Canal Shoppe for over 40 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Alliance Lodge #1097, member of the Barton Hose Company and Past President of the Deansboro Cemetery Association. He was also a founding member and supporter of the Brothertown Association, Inc.
He is survived by his wife Joan; sons, Kevin and Gwen Benedict of Hamilton, NY and Keith and his Fiancé Polly Belfield of Deansboro, NY; grandchildren, Justin, Julie and Blake Benedict and Amanda and Jeremy Neidhardt; sisters, Arlene Bolmer of Old Forge, NY and Alberta and Dr. Guerry Howard of Elmira, NY; brother, Milton "Pete" and Betty Benedict of Sherburne, NY; in-laws, Carol and Bill Koren of Deansboro, John O. Barker of MA and Sandy and Bob Stone of Whitesboro, NY; many nieces and nephews; and special feline companion, Termite.
He is predeceased by daughter, Karen Neidhart; grandson, James Neidhart; brother, Doug Benedict; and brother-in-law, Fred Bolmer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton, NY. A private burial will be held at Deansboro Cemetery.
