Lawrence E. Johnson
Whitesboro, NY

He was born in Utica on April 3, 1919, to Austin and Rose Beers Johnson. He attended St. Francis DeSales school and worked at the Observer Dispatch. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1941 prior to the outbreak of WW II. He served in the European Theater of Operations, 3rd Army Red Diamond Brigade. As the war progressed he was stationed in Iceland, Northern Ireland, England and France. He was awarded a Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and various campaign medals. After WW II he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Utica for 43 years, a job he loved. Lawrence was a devout Catholic and a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills, NY. He loved his God, his Country, and most of all his family of whom he was so very proud. He was an avid sports fan, "cribbage master" and loved "his" music. On June 28, 1948 he married Patricia Horgan, with whom he shared many happy years and wonderful memories.
Lawrence is survived by his daughters and sons in laws Joanne and Jim Capecellatro, Denver, Co., Judy and John Canning, Slingerlands, NY, Tricia and Tony Micaroni, Sylvan Beach NY, his sons and daughter in laws, Larry and Patty Johnson, with whom he resided for the past 17 years in Whitesboro, NY, Michael and Lisa Johnson, Gastonia, NC, and Philip and Shar Johnson, Amsterdam, NY, 19 Grandchildren, and 6 Great Grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Coralyn Lawrence and her husband Ed, his brother Walter, his son Steven and his Grandchildren Rebecca Johnson, and Aly and Emma Johnson, as well as his special Boston Red Sox Buddy "Tom".
A special thank you to the "Cribbage Crew" who he loved so much and said over and over again, "that's what's keeping me alive", for adding laughter and years to his life.
We would also like to thank all the staff on the 6th Floor of St. Luke's Hospital who gave him such loving care.
