Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The angels came for Josephine M. Abbe Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Masonic Home in Utica, New York. She was 89.
She was born September 14, 1920 in Camden, New York, a daughter of the late Harry and Frances LaBroque Magee. On January 11, 1941 she married William E. Abbe in Rome.
Josephine grew up in the House of Good Shepherd in Utica, and during high school she went to live with the Rev. Robert Roberts Family in Westmoreland and graduated high school.
She was a 65 year member of the Oriskany-Westmoreland Order of the Eastern Stars and Post Matron, as well as a former member of the Ladies Aid and Home Bureau of the Bartlett Baptist Church and the Westlanders. She loved her home, was always very domestic, a good cook and a wonderful mother. She loved camping with her husband, family and close friends.
Josephine and William lived on Dix Road in the Town of Westmoreland for about 10 years before moving to Boonville for five years. For 20 years they lived in Waterville before retiring and building a new home back to the Town of Westmoreland on Bartlett Road.
In 1992 she had a stroke and her loving husband took care of her for 12 years until she went to the Masonic Home in Utica and resided there for the last 5 ½ years. She is predeceased by her parents, a sister, Ruth Magee, and a brother, Don LaBroque.
Josephine is survived by her husband, William; all four of her children and families: Eleanor (daughter) and Ronald Cyr of Wellesley Island and Boonville; Barbara (daughter) and Douglas Fobare of Sauquoit; Edwin (son) and Darlene Abbe of Waterville; and Susan (daughter) Crosier of Binghamton. She has six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Masonic Home who took care of her these last 5 ½ years.
