Obituary of John D. O'Brien

John "Jack" D. O'Brien, 84, of Saunders Road, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Presbyterian Home.
He was born on April 10, 1930 in Utica and graduated from New Hartford High School with the class of 1949. Jack served in the US Army in Japan during the Korean War. On May 21, 1960 he married Phyllis Jean Nelson at Church of the Annunciation in Ilion. Jack retired from General Electric after 38 years of service and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Clinton for over 50 years. Together Jack and Jean took country dancing lessons for over 30 years and loved to dance at the park concerts during the summertime.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Erin of Clinton; son Michael and daughter-in-law Kyong Ae O'Brien of NC; two grandsons Philip and Kyle; sister-in-law Edna Nelson of Ilion; several nieces and nephews; and his canine buddy Naomi. He was predeceased by a son Terry; his mother and step-father Florence and Royal Green and in-laws, Katherine and Victor Nelson.
All are invited to calling hours on Sunday from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 6, 2014 at 9:30am at St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
