Obituary of William Lloyd Effland

William Lloyd Effland, Sr., 76, of State Route 233, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Colonial Park Nursing Home.
He was born January 13, 1938, in Rome, NY, a son of the late Boyd R. and Iva (Loveless) Effland. Bill graduated from Westmoreland Central School with the class of 1957. On November 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joan Mae Ackerman. Bill worked as an electronics engineer at General Electric and Oneida County Radio Repair for many years. He shared a passion for the shortwave radio and was an Honorary Lifetime Member of several local amateur radio clubs and was an Amateur Radio VE Examiner. Bill was also a member and past assistance chief of Westmoreland Fire Dept and volunteered at COCVAC as an EMT for many years.
He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Joan; two sons, two daughters and their spouses, William and Deb Effland of Boonville, Barbara Madore and Dick Brough of Westmoreland, April and Steven Allison of South Carolina and Michael Effland and Megan Tate of Waterville; seven grandchildren, Daniel and Katie Madore, Jr. of Vernon, Derick Madore of Rome, Jason and Vanessa Madore of Utica, Craig Allison of Rochester, Brooke Allison of SC, Justin Waller of SC and Elizabeth Tate of Sangerfield; nine great-grandchildren; his sister Joanne Petrie of Verona Beach; brother Boyd Effland of FL; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 6-9pm at the Westmoreland Fire Hall, 101 Station Road, Westmoreland. In keeping with Bill's wishes, he willed his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at SUNY Upstate Medical Center.
