Albert Franklin Griffin, 83, of Clinton passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Martin Luther Home in Clinton with his family by his side.
He was born on October 5, 1926 to Charles and Brenda Brandis Griffin at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Albert attended a one room school house on College Hill until 8th grade and finished his studies at Clinton Central School. He joined the Navy in 1944 and was gunners mate on Less Amsterdam which was in the fleet that went into Japan with Admiral Bull Halsey. Upon returning home he went to work for Utica Sheet Metal Corp. where he retired after 40 years. Albert married Betty Jane Clark at St. Mary's in Clinton on August 6, 1949 and they were married by Father Lawrence. They resided in Clinton and he joined the Clinton Fire Department in 1954. Albert was a member of the Clinton Fire Department for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Local #58 Retirees, Clinton Historical Society, Holy Name Society at St. Mary's, VFW Legion, and an alumni of the Less Amsterdam.
Albert loved Big Moose Lake where he built our camp and spent many enjoyable days there. He also enjoyed making wooden toys and rocking horses for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always remember "Go Slow."
He is survived by his wife, Betty Griffin; three children and their spouses, Michael and Kandis Griffin of Old Forge, Kevin and Laura Griffin of Clinton and Colleen Britcher of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 niece; and 3 nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by 2 sisters, Eleanor Hurlburt and Emily Hinkston; 1 brother, Charles Griffin; and a son-in-law, Brian Britcher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:00AM at St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday from 4-7PM at the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clinton Fire Department, c/o Jim Jenkins, Treasurer, 43 Beatty Ave., Clinton, NY 13323 or to the Martin Luther Home, 108 Utica Rd., Clinton, NY 13323.
