Obituary of Robert Albert Mieskiel

Robert Albert "Sonny" Mieskiel, 83, of Scadden Rd, died Tuesday, April 9, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born in Spicio Center, NY on June 3, 1930, the son of Anthony and Sarah (Crowe) Mieskiel. Al graduated from Westmoreland Central School and served in the US Army. On July 20, 1976, he was married to Betty Mackay until her passing on November 29, 2005. He retired from Agway Feed Mill where he worked for over 40 years as a truck driver. Al was a member of the Stanwix Veterans' & Men's Club, the Clark Mills American Legion Post #26, Rome VFW Post #2246 and the Rome Polish Home.
Al and Betty loved to entertain; their home was the "in" place. Family and friends always came to their house to have fun and enjoy themselves. He particularly enjoyed riding his motorcycle and socializing at town events.
He is survived by Gordon and Pok-Sun Mackay of VA, John and Samantha Mackay of TX, George and Carolyn Corbett of OK, Susan Corbett of Mayville, Lucille and William Rogers of Verona; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Smith of Rome and Evelyn Colbey of PA; and special friends, Joann Huther and Dennis and Theresa Lalonde. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty and Russ Huther, who was like a son to him.
All are invited to call Monday, April 14, 2014 from 1-2pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Funeral services will follow at 2pm on Monday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Westmoreland.
