James A. Hyde, 90, died peacefully on March 29, 2014, at Sitrin Hawthorn House, with his loving family by his side. James was born December 18, 1923, son of Walter and Lela Hyde of Mohawk, NY. He moved to Clinton, where he resided for over 75 years. James graduated from Clinton Central School in 1941. He was a World War II Veteran in the US Navy, stationed on the Battleship Iowa. He attended Universtiy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University. After he was discharged, he went on and pursued a professional baseball career. He played for the Florida Islanders as well as for a team in the New York State League. After he retired from the game, he became a Scout for the Cincinnati Reds. On January 10, 1948, he married Patricia ("Tish") Welch in New Hartford, NY. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. He owned and operated Cardinal Chemical Company, in Clinton, New York and then continued working for Abalene until retirement. He is one of the four founding members of the Skenandoa Golf Club, in Clinton, New York. He was a charter member of the Clinton Kiwanis Club and instrumental in the acquistion of the Kiwanis Park. He was inducted into the Clinton Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. James was predeceased by his wife, Tish and his sister, Elizabeth. He is survived by his son James Christopher and his wife, Barbara Hyde of Marquette, Michigan; his daughter Robin and husband John Dillon of Clinton, New York; grandchildren, Jessica Hyde of Madison, Wisconsin, Carrie Hyde and husband Matt Lusk of Marquette, Michigan, James Dillon of Floral Park, New York and Jonathan Dillon of Clinton, New York; great grandchildren, Eli, Mason and Andrew Lusk and Sawyer Hyde. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the families. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, Clinton. The Hyde and Dillon Family would like to thank the staff at Sitrin's Hawthorn House for all of their love and support in the care of their beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
