Obituary of Gerald M. Dwyer

Gerald M."Bud" Dwyer Clark Mills/ Naples, FL. Gerald M. (Bud) Dwyer, 85, of Clark Mills and Naples, FL, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, at Rome Memorial Hospital with his loving son by his side. He was born in Clark Mills on May 14, 1924 to Jeremiah and Margaret (Christ) Dwyer, and graduated from Clinton Central School before entering the Navy during WWII in 1942. He served his country as a Seaman First Class, surviving a shipwreck from German torpedoes off the coast of Iceland and losing 20 of his fellow shipmates to the North Atlantic before being rescued. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in1946, Bud attended Syracuse University, and graduated from the University of Miami in 1954 with a degree in Music. In between his studies, he enjoyed traveling the world as a Merchant Marine with the United States Coast Guard before beginning his teaching career as a Music Director with many area high school music programs. Bud was a long standing member of the Clinton VFW and Church of Annunciation in Clark Mills. After his retirement from teaching, he devoted much of the remainder of his life to his many real estate interests, as well as his winter homes in Florida. He is survived by his son Dustin and his wife Nicole and their two children, Stephen and Skyler, all of Waterville; two sisters, Regina (Jean) Stasaitis of Utica and Lois Scholl of Clark Mills; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Gerald Allen, in 1972. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of Annunciation, Clark Mills on Monday, February 15, 2010 at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday, February 14, 2010 from 4-6PM at the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Crown Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 120 Lomond Ct., Utica, NY 13502 or Church of Annunciation, South St., Clark Mills, NY 13321, in Bud's memory.
