Obituary of Ethel A. Cianciola

Ethel A. Cianciola, 101, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 after a brief illness. Ethel was born in Watertown, N.Y. on August 30, 1907, to Edward and Philena Wolfe Marshall. Upon moving to Clinton, Ethel and her mother rented an apartment in the family home of Dr. H.E. "Harry" Stratton. Ethel became his patient, and then his wife and office manager. After Harry's death in 1967, Ethel met Joe Cianciola, a widower who shared her love for a good game of cards. They were married in 1970. Joe died in 1986. Ethel is survived by a daughter, Johann Schofield, and her husband, Larry; a son-in law, Joe Varieur, and his wife, Renee; three grandchildren, Christine Sullivan, Joseph Varieur, and Steven Varieur; nephews, Douglas Flynn, and his wife Barbara; Thomas Stratton and his wife Sally; Richard Stratton and his wife Leslie; great-nephews, Don Riesterer and his wife Lois; Dale Riesterer and his wife Connie; James Riesterer and his wife Lois; Gary Riesterer and his wife Loren; Sean Flynn and his wife Bernadette; Patrick Flynn; Paul Bawol and his fianc Susan; great-nieces Susan Sauer and her husband Gene; Bridget Jacobs and her husband Doug; Shannon Flynn; a sister-in law, Elsa Coulter and her husband Carl; and great-grandchildren and great-great nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her adoptive father Harold "Bill" Linder; her husbands Harry and Joe; her sisters, Lola Flynn and Blanche Riesterer; her nephews Harold Riesterer and Francis Riesterer; her niece, Geraldine Bawol; her great-great niece, Lisa Sauer. Funeral services will be Friday, 12:00 PM from the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Calling hours will be Friday from 10:00 until 12:00 PM. An Eastern Star service will be held. Donations may be made to The Eastern Star, 8290 Route 69, Oriskany, NY 13424.
