Obituary of Elizabeth J. Russell

Elizabeth J. Russell Oriskany Falls Elizabeth J. Russell, 106, of Oriskany Falls, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at her residence. She was born October 26, 1902, in Unadilla Forks, NY, the daughter of, Welsh Immigrants, the late Edward R. and Janet Hughes Jones. She lived most of her youth on Jones Brothers Farm which was part of the George Dunham estate on Harts Hill, in Whitesboro. Elizabeth was educated in Whitesboro Schools and the Utica School of Commerce. She married Grant Russell in 1972. The happiest years of her life were, from age 70-93, when she was married to Grant. Elizabeth was employed for 50 years at both the Eastern Rock and Beebe Construction. She commuted to Utica from Harts Hill in Whitesboro by walking, taking the trolley, or bus line. Aunt Betty was known for her kindness and charity to all her friends and relatives. She was of Welsh heritage and spoke the language fluently. She is survived and truly loved by her nephew Dr. Otis Ky Dewan; two nieces, Lisa Dewan and Deborah VanDer Wolk; close family and friends Francis Cowles, Virginia Rigaud, and Doug Sinclair. Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband, Grant Russell in 1995, and her sister, Jennie Dewan in 2001. No prior visitation. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment was held in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
