Obituary of Gail Ueltschi
Please share a memory of Gail to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gail A. Ueltschi, 68, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November, 24, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born April 21, 1940, in Utica, daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Geary Evans. On February 24, 1967, she married Daniel K. Ueltschi a blessed union of 36 years until Dan's death on August 16, 2003. Gail had retired from Clinton Central Schools, where she worked as a supervisor in the high school cafeteria for 25 years. Gail was a member of the VFW Post 9591 and the American Legion Post 232.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Dampf and fianc, Brian Kaiser, of Clinton, Michele and William Boris, of New Hartford, and Heather Ueltschi-Seymour and Robert Seymour, of Clinton; four grandchildren, Sara and Alex Dampf, Daniel Seymour and Matthew Boris; three sisters, Barbara VanDusen, of Clinton, Deanna and Francis Clarke, of Clinton, and Charlene and Milton Webster, of New Hartford; three brothers, Richard and Joan Evans, of Whitesboro, Robert Evans, of Sauquoit, and Charles and Marge Evans, of Allison Park, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a sister, Nadine Evans Hanley-Farrell, and two brothers, Lawrence Evans and Douglas Evans.
Gail was honest, generous, loving and brave. She embraced life with optimism and hope and prevailed over most trials in life with an attitude that reflected only love. Even in her final days, Gail was selfless, sweet and kind and believed that good could be found in everything. Those of us who had the privilege to enjoy Gail, quickly learned the value of family; she was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister. Her life emphasized the importance of togetherness and she often sacrificed any and everything to make those she cared for feel special and loved. Gail was fun-loving and warm, she was a loyal friend and a spirited opponent. As a Mother, Gail was supportive and giving, the epitome of a woman that could cure a scrape with a kiss or fix one of life's tragedies with a few kind, uplifting words. Gail could be fearless, she might easily be the first to try something new and to fight for what she thought was right. She made us all laugh with her sometimes unconventional ways and her stubborn tendencies, but her heart was so big and so full of love, she was never anything less than endearing. Gail is an inspiration to us all, and her last few years on this earth she showed us what true courage was, delving into independence for the first time without her beloved Dan. One of her last conversations included how she missed Dan and how she would like to slow dance with him. Our family takes comfort in knowing that the two of them are reunited and will be slow dancing as they watch over all of us, for eternity, together.
Gail would want us to mention how grateful she was for her sisters, who stood by her through everything and cared for her in her final days. They were always more than sisters, and the dearest of friends. The family would also like to thank the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care, and extend our gratitude to Heidi Werner, for her compassion and support.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 29, at 10 a.m. at Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Friday, November 28, from 2-5.
Those so desiring, please consider donations to Hospice and Palliative Care
