Obituary of Edward A. Rewkowski

Edward A. Rewkowski, 84, of Clinton, died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Utica on August 24, 1924, the son of Adolph and Antoinette (Wroblewski) Rewkowski. He was a graduate of Holy Trinity & St Francis DeSales Schools and attended Utica College of Syracuse University. Ed served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943-1947, in the Asia-Pacific Theater of Operations. He married Elizabeth Heiley Carpenter on June 24, 1950, in St Patrick's Church, Utica. Edward was the food administrator for Blaikie Food, as well as food services at MVCC, Rome AFB, and Sconondoa Rayon. He retired in 1990 from Utica Mutual Insurance Co as cafeteria administrator. Ed served as past President of the Utica Common Council. He was also a member of American Legion Post 229, the Knights of Columbus, past President of the Utica Polish Community Club and past President of the West Utica Democratic Club.Ed and Betty owned and operated the Lighthouse Restaurant in Otter Lake for many years.In an ordinary lifetime, Ed was an extraordinary man, always there for family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his wife Betty, three sons: Dennis of Downington, PA; Mark and Dorothy of Otego; Michael of Clinton; and two daughters MaryBeth and James Wahl of Clinton; and LoriAnn and Stephen Cosco of Westmoreland. He also leaves nine grandchildren: Carrie Ann, Andrew and Tina, Kevin, Kory, Matthew, Monica, Stephanie, Stephen Edward, Dana, and a niece Kathleen and Leo Haynes and a nephew Stephen Rewkowski. He also leaves cousins: Debbie Kohn, David Kohn, Lisa (Mark) Reynolds, and Jodi (Tim and Maygan) Deep, and countless cherished friends.Ed was predeceased by a brother, Chester A. Rewkowski in 2003.Friends are invited and may call Friday from 4-7 at Owens-Pavlot Funeral Home, 35 College St, Clinton. He was a communicant at Holy Trinity Church in Utica where a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in St Joseph's Cemetery, Yorkville.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance and to the nurses and staff of St Elizabeth's Medical Center Cardiac Care Unit for their care, concern and compassion during Edward's illness.
