Charles A. Young, 95, of New Hartford and a longtime resident of Little Falls, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Faxton-St Lukes Hospital.
He was born December 3, 1912 in Hornell, the son of Carl and Helen Krause Young. Charles graduated from Hornell High School and received a bachelors degree from the University of Iowa and a Masters degree from Ithaca College. In 1942 he was married to Adelaide Heinecke. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Ranger and the USS Hornet as a chief petty officer. The couple resided in Little Falls for over 50 years moving to New Hartford in 2008. Charles taught Physical Education in the Little Falls School District and coached football, wrestling and many other sports. He was also an avid golfer. He was a former member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Adelaide; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Regnar Skarsaune of IA, Joan and Ken Clark of Utica, Patricia Stark of RI, and Carol and Don Lemche of MN; a son-in-law, Peter Plass of Silver Bay, NY; thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl Plass.
