Linda and family,
Eventhough we never did meet Jerry, we would like to express our gratitude for the moments you shared Jerry with us. Through our friendship with your family we have had the privileged opportunity to get a glimpse into Jerry's humorous, kind, and loving ways. You and John were always full of joy with such an exuberant amount of energy expressed whenever he and his joyous experiences were shared with us. We hold all of the shared stories as cherished memories of your relationship with such a great man. Having a person like Jerry that passes through in a lifetime is truly a treasure. We send our hugs and friendship as you grieve your loss.

Dear Family of Jerry,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry about twenty years ago in Prospect at the Labor Day Softball Tournament. He treated my traveling softball team (Millers Fuel) with the utmost respect both on and off the playing field.I knew him to be a true gentleman and had the utmost respect for him. May God bless him. Au Sable Forks will miss him dearly.
Sincerely,
Randy Douglas

It is hard for me to even begin with my first memory of Jerry in the Au Sable Fast pitch Tourney. There are too many to recount them all. From the first time we met I was Fireball to him, from my pitching expiernences with the STP team. My favorite story has to do with Jerry never wearing plate shoes when he umpped. I told him he was crazy and he said the had never been hit and didn't see the need to spend the money..well you guessed it, first game he umpped that tourney he got hit in the big toe and broke it...we laughed for years about that. To all his family, I cannot tell you how much Jerry met to the "boys from the Forks". He was truly an adopted son. I don't say this about allot of men but I truly loved him and will never step foot on that field without a thought of him passing through my mind. God Bless you Jerry and God bless of you in his family.

Our deepest sympathy to Joyce and family on Jerry's passing. We have many fond memories of him and his "blue crew" camped under the pine trees down the right field line at the Au Sable Fast Pitch Ball Field. He loved coming to the "happy valley" to umpire and meet many of his
great friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jerry "gas man" Carroll. He took me under his wing and taught me Men's
Fast pitch Umpiring. I learned more from his actions than his words. It was
always enjoyable listening to his umpiring experiences. I will never forget
when he would ask a fellow umpire to "come into my office". You knew it was time
for corrective action on the field. When I take the field to umpire he will be
on the field with me. I'm sure he will be Umpiring in heaven very soon. A true
gentleman on and off the field. He will be sorely missed!
Love,

I only knew Jerry for a few years but during this time he was always outgoing and friendly even when he probably was not feeling his best. I met Jerry when he joined the high school board for umpires and enjoyed his humor and love for the game. I respected Jerry as a person and will truly miss him. God bless you Gerald Carroll.

Dear Joyce, Andrea, Richard and family:
My heart is very, very heavy today with the news of Jerry's passing. He was a wonderful man with a great sense of humour and a love of fastball. I was able to umpire with him on a number of occasions in Au Sable and he was a great student of the game.
Whenever, I pulled into the Au Sable ballpark, I would always seek out Jerry underneath the tree by the river down the right field line. I hope that the folks in Au Sable Forks dedicate that area as "Jerry's Corner". Even when I left umpiring and gave a try at coaching, Jerry remained a friend. When I was upset on the diamond one time with a call he was the first to get to me and calm me down. How could you be upset with Jerry putting his arm around you and gently walking you away from the diamond? You couldn't.
I know Jerry's, watching that gapper go to the fence, taken off his mask and headed for third to help out his umpiring partner to make that last big call. In fastball we are always referring to "outs". In Jerry's case we refer to "in's" In good spirits, in good humour, in position, in the game and now....in our hearts, minds and thoughts.
God bless Jerry. We will miss him but we will never, ever, forget him.
Joyce, we are thinking of you and your family at this very difficult time. May God be with you to lend you strength and that you will take comfort form the friends and family of you and Jerry who are here to support you.
