Richard F. Bord, 86, passed away on December 14, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica, NY on January 19, 1923, son of the late Richard F. Bord Sr. and Grace Connors Bord. He was educated in Utica schools and was a proud veteran of World War II serving as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army for four years in Europe. In June 1948 he married Rita D. Reynolds, a loving union until her passing in January 1978. In August 1992, he married Mary DeLong with whom he had shared a loving relationship since 1979.
Returning to Utica after the war, he was a top salesman for Hathaway Baking Company. For many years he was a buyer for Bendix Corp. and later worked in the same capacity for Mohawk Airlines. Until his retirement in 1986 he worked for Frank Murken, Inc. selling industrial rubber products to manufacturers throughout Central New York, the North Country and Southern Tier.
When he was younger, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an avid bowler for many years. Throughout his life he enjoyed outdoor activities including golf, camping, boating and especially fishing. Until recent years, he liked to play pool, target shoot, and do leatherwork leaving behind some outstanding hand-tooled pieces. He and his wife, Mary, enjoyed most of these activities together during retirement and he always looked forward to their frequent trips to the St. Lawrence River or Cape May and Atlantic City.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of New Hartford, his canine companion, Nikki, and his four children, Dr. Donald and Cheryl Bord of Plymouth, Michigan; Kenneth and Marie Bord, New Hartford; Constance Bord, New Hartford; and Judith and Mark Sisti, Whitesboro; three grandchildren, Christine Bord and John Matthews, Clinton; David Sisti, Whitesboro; and Jeffrey Bord, Plymouth, Michigan. He is also survived by his stepchildren and their families, Dr. Bill and Lisa DeLong of Maryland; Mark and Sharon DeLong, Westmoreland; and Cindy Gatesman and David Savion of Phoenix, NY. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Kaye Flagler, of Minnesota and many nieces and nephews on both the Reynolds and Bord sides of the family. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Warren Bord, Grace Seim, John Bord and Jane Heitz.
