Milton H. Jannone, 86, of Kellogg St., died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Harding Nursing Home. He was born August 27, 1921 in Beverly, NJ, to Michael and Marian McGovern Jannone. Milton graduated from Waterville Schools. He received his bachelors degree from Hamilton College and was the first football player to earn All-American Honors in 1941. Milton still holds records at Hamilton College for most rushing touchdowns in one game (4); most rushing touchdowns in one season (16); and longest run from scrimmage (97 yards). He served in the US Navy from 1943-1948. On May 22, 1944, he married Mary Bachmann in Chicago. His family traveled with him during his military service. Milton taught at Waterville Schools until 1954 when he began teaching for MVCC before they moved to the new campus there he was a Sociology Professor and served as Dept Chair. He was a past member of Grace Episcopal Church in Waterville where he served on the Vestry. He was also a member of the Waterville School Board, the ELKS Club and Rotary in Waterville. Milton was past commander of the Waterville American Legion Post #92 and a life member of New Hartford American Legion Post #1376. He is survived by his wife, Mary; six children and their spouses, Michael and Russ of St. Petersburg, FL, David and Norma Jean of Southern Pines, NC, Dennis and Eileen of Rome, Martha and Richard Eaton of Knoxboro, Mary and Terry Denoma of Lake Villa, IL and Christine and Terry Spooner of Oriskany Falls; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Ilene Langone of Waterville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother William Jannone. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Hamilton College Chapel, Clinton. There will be no public calling hours.
