To the family of Mr. Constantino.
It was my honor to visit with you all during your dads stay while at Upstate. Unfortunately for me, I met with you all during his last couple days, but I was so pleased to be able to talk with him and your mom, and all of his children. We spoke about the memories how he and mom met, and songs which reminded you of him and you all chuckled. In the end, he you all passed some very nice words to each other. I learned so much about all of you in such a short time, but most of all how much Love and Respect he and your mom have instilled in each of you was remarkable that he will definitely live on as you all make your encounter into this world and encounter your stages of life. I know he will be proud of all of you, and you will definitely feel his love along your journey of life.
My apologies for not making the calling hours, I wanted to visit with you but the weather played havoc on my travels that day from Syracuse. Please accept my condolences and we hope time will help you all heal with the memories you have made with your dad, and husband over the past although short span of his life. Peace to all of you.

I met Sam many, many years ago. I found ParTech, while looking for new point of sale hardware and in doing so became a loyal customer AND most importantly found a friend. His love of his family, life and his faith was evident in everything he did.
Sam is the Lighthouse, guiding everyone home. His light will continue to shine on all those that have had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in Peace my friend.

In February of 1971 our good friends Elaine and Charlie Constantino asked Dr Frank and me if we would be God parents to their newborn son, Samuel. We were honored and quickly accepted.
Since the Constantino family lived down the street from us it was happy times for our families as we saw each other a lot. We were like family. Our three children and their three children were about the same ages. Sam, their fourth child, was a baby. Of course, Sam got a lot of attention. Sam was as I remember, was always smiling, a happy kid.
One year our families traveled to Bermuda together on a vacation. We were two cars following each other to Florida and then took a big, rattling DC 10 over to Bermuda. The trip to Bermuda was eventful. We had a lot of fun together. Sam was about seven or eight years old. We had a great time in the sun. The kids played a lot of basketball as I remember. Charlie’s mother accompanied us. It was a great trip. We had a lot of laughs.
When I read Sam tell us on Samstrong his diagnosis, I was very sad. I became a follower of the daily journal. I checked every day to see how Sam was doing. To my amazement he was upbeat and doing fine. I tried every day to write something encouraging on the journal, but to my surprise he was keeping me up regarding his health. He was upbeat and not giving up.
What a wonderful man he became. Sam inspired me with his resilience. His love of God, family, generosity of spirit and soulfulness was admirable. Sam was a great husband to his loving wife Marie. What a beautiful marriage! The love exchanged with his children is wonderful to watch. Sams love and devotion to his parents was obvious.
I am blessed to have known Sam. His courage in this struggle was amazing. The way he always smiled his way through the last two years was extraordinary. When I read Marie’s statement on Samstrong that said Sam had gone to eternal life, I told my family, and we all were heartbroken.
I know that Sam is with our Lord and that he is with his beloved father. Charlie and Sam are smiling together, I am sure. He will be missed. Laugh is Good.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sammy. We called him that when he was little. He wrote such a great memory of my brother Jeff when he passed earlier in September. My father used Sam's words during Jeff's memorial. I'm truly sorry to hear of his passing. He was selfless, never letting on that he was sick. He found the time to make someone else feel better during their loss. Sincere sympathy

My earliest memories of Sam go back to 1975, I was 5 and Sam was 4. Our parents were good friends, and we went bowling together. I don’t remember a lot about it, but I do remember meeting Sam and instantly becoming friends. Since that time Sam and I have remained friends through thick and thin. We went to summer basketball camp together and played many sports together, always competing and having fun. He would compete at anything, at Dolph Shayes Basketball Camp I remember a pretty intense swan dive competition, ping pong, tennis, darts, you name it, we had a blast together.
Sam was the ultimate competitor but one that could take a loss without bitterness and won without excessive gloating, although he would remind you of the victory a few times.
We went to high school together and when I got my driver’s license Sam convinced me to pick him up for school everyday. We had a lot of laughs on the way to school and would keep up on each other’s daily lives enroute to school. This included his lasting infatuation with Marie Deangelo. Marie and I had been friends at St. Mary’s Jr. High, I knew both Marie and Sam very well before they knew each other, although I can’t lay claim to introducing the two. Sam was head over heels for Marie and would often ask me advice on how best to first secure and then keep her.
We went to college at U of R together and while each had our own set of friends, we would hang out together whenever we ran into each other at a party or other event on campus. He introduced me to his Sigma Chi brothers and I was always assured entrance to a Sigma Chi party by mentioning his name. When I told Sam I was going to Spain my senior year to study in Seville, Sam was intrigued and said “I want to go” sure enough a month later he as slated to come with me on our international study escapade. This was a testament to Sam’s sense of adventure and guts to try something new and get out of his comfort zone. We shared the same room in Spain together with TJ Mullin, yep three of us in one small room, we had a lot of laughs and have a lot of good stories. We were competitive here too, which took the form of toe pulling, if we got all 30 of our toes to “pop”, it was hoots and high fives, much to Mi Madre’s chagrin.
After College, both Sam and I headed west, I to law school in San Diego and Sam to grad school at Pepperdine. We saw each other when we could and continued our friendship until natural disasters and Sam’s missing of Marie brought him back home to Upstate New York. Next thing I knew I was standing up in Sam’s wedding and then holding Sam’s son Sammy outside a restaurant when they visited me in San Diego and Sam Jr. was a little cranky. Sam flew out to San Diego to run my first and only marathon with me and got me across the finish line, I couldn’t have done it without him. He actually had to tie my shoe as I was in too much pain.
Eventually I too came home to Upstate NY. I have 4 kids, a couple of which are the same age as Sam’s kids. We continued to spend time together, skiing and rafting at my place in North Creek and hitting an occasional SU game or just having dinner when I or he were passing close to each other in our business travels.
We have been confidants and best friends for many years and I’m going to miss Sam’s spirit, optimism and zest for life. I always knew Sam was something special, but it wasn’t until his recent illness that I was able to see what an incredibly strong and resilient person Sam was. I got a phone call from Sam when I was on the way to Sam’s dad’s funeral and I thought “why is Sam calling me, I’m going to see him in 2 hours”. Unfortunately, the answer was that Sam wanted to break the news to me about his diagnosis before I saw him at the funeral, so I was not left in the dark. To my amazement Sam gave the eulogy for Charlie and it was an incredible testament to all his dad had accomplished and the person he was. It was an unflappable performance in and of itself, but given the circumstances I found it incredible.
Over the last two years I have been continually awestruck by Sam’s resiliency, strength and fortitude. He has motivated and inspired so many people through the SamStrong Facebook page that his sister started for him. His outlook as been amazing and his faith in God and Jesus Christ powerful. I saw him a couple days before he was hospitalized and 30 oz of fluid drained from his lungs. I had asked him to go bowling and while his breath was shallow, and I could tell he was uncomfortable; he did not complain or address it. He bowled two games with me as competitively as he was able, and we had a lot of laughs. Ironically, the last thing I did with Sam was also the first thing I did with Sam. I will miss him terribly as will so many.

Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Samuel?
A: I met Sam while working on a big business contract in Las Vegas. This deal was done in 2006 and I have been a friend of Sam's since that time. What I liked about Sam was he wasn't a salesman. He ended up being a friend more than just a vendor and I really appreciated his energy and his positivity in all of our conversations. I last saw him in October at g2e and he was still very positive. And Energetic even when facing his illness. I will miss you Sam.

Sam changed the world in so many ways. His enthusiasm was infectious and his energy sustained everyone he met.
Although our relationship was mainly in business, he felt like family at all times. He was someone who would always respond, always dote on his family, be faithful to all and exceeded his customer's expectations.
Sending lots love and care to Sam's family and friends.
