Obituary of William Carl Cochis
William Carl Cochis, 87, of Wake Forest, NC, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024. William was born in Rome, New York to the late James and Martha Cochis.
William graduated from Rome Fee Academy Class of 1954. He proudly served in the US Army from 1957-1959. He married the love of his life, Agnes Dzwonkas on May 25, 1963. They lived in Westmoreland, NY and he worked for Revere Copper and Brass of Rome, NY for 22 years. In 1981 William and Agnes moved to Whitinsville, MA and he worked as a fluids engineer for Morgan Construction Company of Worcester, MA for almost 20 years, retiring in 1998.
During his career he was a member of the American Society of Lubrication Engineers and served on their national board of directors. He was a founding member of the Lowell, NY Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in politics, serving as a town councilman in Westmoreland, NY, and was an active member of their church community at St. Patrick’s in Northbridge, MA.
William loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to golf, ski and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, gardening with his wife, and vacationing at Cape Cod. Also loved watching the Red Sox.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence James Cochis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Agnes (Dzwonkas) of Wake Forest, NC; sons, Timothy Cochis and his wife Toni (Norris) of Wake Forest, NC, Robert Cochis and his wife Pamela (Kulesza) of Apex, NC, Andrew Cochis and his wife Amy (Starvaski) of Richmond, RI; grandchildren, Allison and her husband Kris Geist of East Berne, NY, Anna Cochis and her fiancé Drew Dembek of Cary, NC, Samantha Cochis and her fiancé Paul Merlino of Warwick, RI, Matthew Cochis of Charlottesville, VA, Sarah Cochis of Apex, NC; great grandchildren, Madelyn Geist of East Berne, NY; brother Jack Cochis of Tarzana, CA; brothers-in-law, Bernie Dzwonkas and his Wife Kay of Whitesboro, NY, Albert Dzwonkas and his Wife Carolyn of Whitesboro, NY; sister in law, Bernice Logan of Clinton, NY; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or your local volunteer fire department.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Church of the Annunciation, 7616 E. South St. Clinton, NY 13323. Interment following at St. George’s Cemetery, Whitesboro, NY.
