Obituary of Jay S. Eddy
Jay Sarles Eddy, 75, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at his home in Clark Mills, NY. He was born on September 2, 1949, to Kenneth and Doris Eddy, and grew up in New York Mills alongside his loving Sister Diane Eddy Bond and brother Dale Eddy, all of whom he now can see again in heaven.
He attended New York Mills High School where he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. He also frequented the local park where his skill at shuffle puck coined the term “Jay Eddy Shot” that he used to win many matches. Jay enlisted in the Navy and fought for our country in the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Forrestal and the USS Saratoga. He had a passion for genealogy, and after leaving the service he spent years tracking down his family history, seeking original documents and traced his ancestry all the way back to the 1600s in England when the first of his family came to America. He also loved sports, with the Boston Red Sox being his clear favorite and he was also a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Aside from watching sports, he loved playing rounds of golf with friends and family. His love of country eventually led him to the American Legion Post 26 in Clark Mills where he developed a deep connection with fellow veterans. He used this as an opportunity to contribute to the local community, and during his time there served as Commander twice, and over the last few years he served as the Legion’s Chaplain.
Jay is survived by his son Daniel Eddy of Marcy, NY, his nephew Dean (Judy) Bond of Tuttle, OK, his nieces Pam Bond of Ada, OK, Heather Redner (Dion) Mathis, of West Lyden, NY, Kendra Eddy of Rome, NY, and Justine (Kenneth) Moore of Oriskany, NY; great nieces and nephews Jeremy Bond, D’Arcy Bond, Sheldon Bond, Emmet Backer, Levi Mathis, Hunter, and Jude; great great nieces and nephews Rivers, Kayden, Kloe, and Karter Bond.
There are too many friends to list, as Jay touched the lives of so many along his journey. Ask anyone who had an opportunity to be close to him and they’ll tell you a story about something he did for them or a moment they shared with him that brought them joy. While his heart no longer beats, the warmth it brought to the world will continue to resonate with all he touched for years to come.
