Obituary of Mary Kathleen Dzwonkas
Mary Kathleen “Kay” Dzwonkas, 94, passed away at home, with her loving family by her side, on October 20, 2024.
She was born in Oswego on August 6, 1930, a daughter of the late Ford and Kathleen (Gantz) Mulcahey. Kay graduated from Crouse-Irving School of Nursing and Syracuse University with her Bachelors in Nursing which she completed while working full-time and raising her five children. She began her career as a public health nurse with NYSDOH, providing services to migrant workers and their families. She retired from the Visiting Nurse Association as a nursing supervisor. She was united in marriage to Bernard J. Dzwonkas on June 26, 1954 in Oswego. Kay and Bernie recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Kay was a member of Church of the Annunciation and the choral group Exodus.
Kay will be missed by her husband, Bernie; her four daughters, a son and their spouses, Suzanne and Patrick Helbach of PA, Bonnie and Mark Pawlick of Marcy, BJ and Michele Dzwonkas of Clinton, Wendy Ellis of Marcy, and Donna Dzwonkas of WA; seven beloved grandchildren; ten cherished great-grandchildren; her brother Cornelius Mulcahey of Oswego; two sisters, Ann Rose Frateschi of Lakeland, NY, and Geraldine and Ronald Buckley of Endwell, NY; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, Joseph, Robert, Ford, Francis, Thomas, Daniel and David Mulcahey; and son-in-law Joe Ellis.
All are invited to call Friday, October 25, 2024, from 5-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday at Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills. She will be laid to rest at Westmoreland Cemetery.
The family thanks her caregiver, Denise Fauteux, for her many years of compassionate care. Without her assistance, Kay would not have been able to remain at home. The family would also like to thank Jessica Fauteux and Hospice and Palliative Care for their help and assistance.
