Obituary of Robert F. Lewis
In the early morning hours of September 27, 2024, Robert (Bob) Foote Lewis passed on peacefully in his sleep, in the home of his dear friends, under Hospice care.
Bob was born on December 18, 1945 in Sidney, NY; he grew up and attended school in Bainbridge, NY. He was the son of Randolph and Helen Lewis; the fourth of five children. He was preceded in death by sisters Ann (Dennis) Enright and Mary Budine. He is survived by sisters Cynthia Avice and KathrynLewis and several nieces and nephews.
A love of history fueled his graduation from the University of Albany and subsequent teaching 7th grade New York History for several decades at Mount Markham Middle School in West Winfield, NY. During this time, he was very active in New York State United Teachers, serving as both local president and district state representative.
His free time was often spent traveling throughout the US, Europe, and China, vacationing with Mickey Mouse, enjoying the company of his family and friends and good food and drink.
Here are some things Bob loved: collecting Whites of Utica stoneware, dining at The Willows of Utica and Nola’s Restaurant, drinks at The Green Onion Pub, decades attending the Saratoga Jazz Festival, Buffalo Bills football, gardening, birthday and holiday celebrations with family and friends.
Bob created beautiful gardens at the Clayville Library and the Chadwicks Episcopal Church for all to enjoy. He often did things for others and will be remembered as a true gentleman. He brought to this life a caring, calming presence wherever needed.
Bob will remain in our hearts always.
