Charis and Lynette,
I am so incredibly sorry to hear of Chip’s passing. Playing volleyball with him was always an adventure, on and off the court. He will continue to live on through the stories and memories that people will share for years to come. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I was always worrying about Chip and his fear of seeking medical attention because I am a nurse practitioner. I knew there was so much in medicine to help him live a long and healthy life. Sometimes our fears and anxieties are difficult to overcome. If you have fears and anxieties, please know there are ways to live with them through medicines, therapy and behavioral strategies. The longer you let fear and anxiety go untreated, the more it grows and restricts you from living your life. When I saw Chip briefly on the Saturday up at camp before he died, I knew that his fear and anxiety had won. I would always joke with him to take care of himself and had told him more than once how much he meant to my family and that it would break my kids hearts to lose him. Then I would try to lighten the conversation and I’d say, “At least poop in the box…if you can’t do the colonoscopy, scoop the poop at home and send it out by mail”. He did the best he could after having such emotional turmoil at a young age with the loss of his parents and the burden of carrying on without them. He did the best he could….and now we will do the best we can to go on without him, sustained by all he gave us while he was in our lives. Love you Chip.
