Obituary of Joyce E Slocum

Joyce E. Slocum, 81, of Oriskany Falls, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was born on June 7, 1932, a daughter of the late Edward and Gladys Colman and graduated from Oriskany Falls High School. On February 23, 1952, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Slocum until his death on September 3, 1992. The couple lived in Oriskany Falls for many years. Joyce retired from Citibank, where she worked as a teller. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and its' Parish Council and the Oriskany Falls Senior Citizens. Joyce loved to knit and give her works as gifts and she also enjoyed crossword puzzles. After the death of her husband, she had the love and companionship of her dog, Pepper to help her through. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Borges and her friend Joseph; five sons and their spouses, Curtis and Susan Slocum of Clark Mills, Kenneth and Sheryl Slocum of Oriskany Falls, Randall and Terrie Slocum of Oriskany Falls, Dennis and Candy Slocum of Deansboro and Donald and Jennifer Slocum of N. Brookfield; nineteen grandchildren, Charles, Jennifer, Devon, Jesse, Collin, William, Anastasia, Robert, Juliana, Elizabeth, Toren, Jacob, John, Brett, Alex, Tyler, Jamie, Ronald and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Justice, Kaitlyn and Damien; her sister, Beverly Tallman of Oriskany Falls; and sister-in-law, Mary Slocum of Oriskany Falls. She was predeceased by her husband, her sister Carol Petrie and her grandson, Jason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, September 16, 2013 at St. Joseph's Church in Oriskany Falls with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
