Rick was born on May 20, 1964, to John and Sharon (Duffy) Schaller. He grew up in Westmoreland, NY, with his brother and sisters. After high school, Rick started his career as a truck driver and worked for several different trucking companies traveling all over the country. Eventually, he started his own business RJS Mobile Home Transport.
When Rick became a father, it was the proudest moment of his life. He raised his son Ricky and was very proud of the man that he is today. Rick’s Niece Nicole came to live with him about five years ago and became the “Daughter” he never had. They shared a very special bond that will never be replaced. Ricky and Nicki were very involved in Rick’s care over the past few years during his battle with cancer. They always went above and beyond to help him, especially in his final days. Rick was a great listener, a great friend and was loved by all that met him. His door was always open, and he was willing to help anyone in need.
Richard is survived by his parents, John and Sharon Schaller, Vernon; his son, Richard James Schaller Jr., Vernon; brother, Jeff (Denise) Schaller, Florida; sisters, Michelle Cotter, Vernon, Barb (Dan) Kitchen, Vernon; special nieces and nephews, Nicole Cotter, Dan (Lindsey) Kitchen, Haley Kitchen, Kara (Dan) Brown and their children Jacob & Katelyn. Rick was anticipating the arrival of another great niece due very soon. He also leaves behind many other extended family members and friends including his best friend of many years, Johnboy Abbott who was always there for him. His chats got him through some of the toughest times. Another very special friendship that Rick cherished was that of Debbie Meininger. She meant the world to Rick. Last but not least, he leaves behind his loving K-9 Pandaman, who made him smile, laugh and enjoy life even in the toughest times.
