Obituary of Stewart A Bormann

Stewart Bormann, 68, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2013 with his wife by his side after a valiant battle with cancer. Born and raised in Rome, NY, Stewart graduated from RFA ('63); SUNY Plattsburgh (BA); and SUNY Cortland (MS). Known as DJ "Art Stewart" on WUTQ & WADR Stewart found his calling in education and became known as the best dressed Art Teacher for the Utica City School District. Stewart was: an artist, potter, DeadHead, fantastical thinker, gardener (master of garlic!), chef, food astronaut, keeper of the hearth, weightlifter, hobby meteorologist (WKTV Weather Blog!), nature and animal lover, trekkie and Arcturian with a special sense of humor and ability to pun. A dedicated and loquacious mentor, Stewart drew his lessons from his love of Native American cultures, Buddhism, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and the Grateful Dead. Stewart is survived by his wife Leslie, daughter & fianc, Sarah & Aaron Glass; cats, Leah & Shere Khan & "grand cats" Pearl & Suede-all of whom he cherished and spoiled with abandon. Stewart is also survived by his sister, BettyAnn Bormann; nephew Dean Grant and great niece and nephew Nicole and Sean Grant; niece and husband Lisa and Jeremy Raucci and great nieces and nephew, Eleni, Sophia and Joseph. He is predeceased by his parents, Stewart and Bertha (Simiele) Bormann; and sister, Brenda Grant. A memorial service will be held at 3pm, Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College Street, Clinton, NY. All are invited to call Sunday from 1pm - 3pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Thank you to the amazing team of doctors, nurses & healthcare professionals at St. Luke's.
