Gertrude Steates, 91, formerly of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family on January 11, 2024.

 

She was born July 16, 1932, in Watertown, a daughter of the late Gunnar and Pauline (Snider) Petersen. Gert was united in marriage to Jerome Steates until his passing in 1992.

 

Gert worked at Eggers, Caryl & Corrigan for many years. She had been a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in New York Mills for many years before attending St. Mary’s Church in Clinton.  She was also a member of the Rescue Mission Auxiliary of Utica and an Associate with the Telephone Pioneers. 

 

She is survived by her children, Gunnar Steates, Paula Steates & Mark Williams, and Ollie Steates; her beloved grandchildren, Melissa Wheaton, Tammy & Jim Wolcott, James & Miranda Steates, Michael Steates and fiance Laura Segerlind, and Samantha Steates; great-grandchildren, Brandon Steates, Madison & Matthew Steates, Donte Wolcott, Tyler Steates, Aiden Segerlind; and great-great grandchild, Brayden Steates. She also leaves behind and was loved by many extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her son James Steates Sr. and husband Jerome Steates.

 

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton.  She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service.
